HOW CAN I HELP YOU?

Psychologist, EMDR Therapist & ACT Practitioner

About Michelle

I’m a Psychologist, Trauma Therapist, and Counsellor, with a special interest in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing), AUR-CT (Auricular Chromotherapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).

Perhaps you're overwhelmed by a recent or past traumatic event. Maybe you’re feeling anxious and unsure about your future. Or trapped by a cycle of depression. Whatever your needs may be, I am able to provide support and guidance.

I have more than 20 years of experience as a psychologist practising in the North-Western suburbs of Brisbane. I have worked with adults and adolescents dealing with a range of Mental Health and Disability specific issues, such as: Trauma-related disorders (incl. PTSD); Anxiety and phobia disorders; Depressive disorders (incl. Bipolar); Personality Disorders; Obsessive Compulsive disorders; Autism Spectrum Disorder; Intellectual Impairment; Self-Harming behaviours; Anger Management; Domestic Violence survivors; Sexual Abuse survivors; Grief and loss; Bullying issues.

Trauma Treatment

EMDR AND AUR-CT

Trauma can affect us all differently. It can make our life chaotic and unpredictable. It can disguise itself as serenity and then hit like a tsunami without warning. Or it can be quietly churning away in the background, like crossing currents pulling and tugging, causing exhaustion and unease. Emotionally it can numb us, create swirls of panic, fear, agitation and chronic self-loathing. Physically it can cause insomnia, memory blanks, and a sense of disconnect from ourselves, others and our environment.

EMDR works to calm the seas of disturbance and is an effective therapy for trauma. It allows the traumatic memory to lose its emotional charge and fade into the background. It also changes your thinking about the event and yourself from being negative to more positive.

AUR-CT is a non-invasive technique that uses coloured light to discharge the level of disturbance. Once again, it allows the traumatic memory to fade away leaving a feeling of lightness and relief.

My Approach: ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT)

My Approach

ACCEPTANCE AND COMMITMENT THERAPY (ACT)

ACT stands for Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which is about accepting the things we can’t change and committing action to pursue a life of meaning and purpose.

ACT is an active therapy, not a talk-based therapy. We will work together to develop strategies and build skills to deal with difficult thoughts and feelings. The aim is to create objectivity and broaden your perspective, so that you are not defined by your problems. Then we will attempt to clarify the things in life that you care most about and formulate goals towards realising them.
